My silver lining 💓⁣⁣Happy Tuesday everyone! Is it ever too cold/rainy for ice cream? ⁣⁣How are you doing? 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼⁣⁣We’re still in lockdown here. I’m tired of this. People keep saying - “Wow you’ve got your hands full with 4 young kids.” ⁣My answer- “We’ve all got our hands full no matter where you are in this stage!” ⁣⁣You know what I miss the most? My friends. Socializing. Going out for dinner. Not worrying. Hugging. Sports. Life. ⁣⁣I keep telling myself soon enough, right?! ⁣⁣⭐️ Okay so again- how are YOU?! ⭐️ ⁣⁣And Happy Teacher Appreciation week! ⁣“Background knowledge is the Glue that makes Learning stick” - ReLeah Cossett Lent, 2012⁣⁣Research shows that a person’s prior knowledge is been formed by their life’s experiences (Schallert, 2002). Now, since we all come from different backgrounds and have different life experiences, this knowledge varies greatly. ⁣⁣A GREAT way to help kids build their prior knowledge (background knowledge) is to give them multiple outlets of PLAY. ⁣⁣That’s right- unstructured play! ⁣⁣There is also value in some structured play as well. For example, if kids are learning about money, they can use the play centre as a bakery. In their bakery, they can work together to price their items and sell them! They’re building their experiential knowledge, their language skills, their social skills and math skills! ⁣⁣We must continue to keep play as central to kids learning beyond Kindergarten! Sensory play has SO much value! here some of my favourites: ⁣⁣1. Research shows that it builds the brain’s pathways to more complex paths. ⁣2. It builds a child’s vocabulary⁣3. this type of sensory play helps kids learn sensory attributes such as cold, wet, sticky, soft, slithery. ⁣4. Here’s our brief outline of what I have planned for this week. ⁣⁣I’m sure we’ll deviate, buttt I thought it would be helpful to share a bit of a plan! ⁣⁣Printing- this is a review. I’ve noticed he’s still not printing his letters properly, so we’re reviewing again. I don’t spend a long of time printing though! Just a few minutes. ⁣⁣A lot of our activities will be from my spring activity pack- where there are math, literacy and science activities! ⁣⁣I’m a big believer in play- so I often set a timer for the writing/cutting and pasting activities. This way, he knows that he doesn’t have to sit for thaaaat long (he can sit longer if he wants), and setting a goal is always helpful!⁣⁣What do you have planned for this week?? ⁣⁣Let me know if this is helpful!!
