I know this is such a stressful (and bizarre) time. Do these thoughts sound similar to the ones you’ve had?⁣

💫 Is my child behind? ⁣
💫 Are they falling behind? ⁣
💫 How will I ever catch them up?! ⁣
💫 I am failing! ⁣
💫 I can’t do this anymore. ⁣
💫 I’ve got my own work + I need to feed them. ⁣
💫 I’m tired. ⁣
💫 They’re tired. ⁣
💫 Are they behind? ⁣
💫 Am I failing?! ⁣

Sound familiar? I’ve been there too. I get it. This time is truly like no other and on a good day, these thoughts may race through our minds anyways. ⁣
⁣
But here’s what I have to say: ⁣
1. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! ⁣
2. You are not alone ❤️⁣
3. Your kids will be okay academically. We’re all in the same boat. If they need a bit of extra time to play, let them. Or a bit of extra screen time, it’s also ok! ⁣
4. Please remember that learning is a lifelong journey and it takes time to learn new concepts. If your child isn’t grasping a concept now (or this year), that’s okay. They will. Ask for help if you need it and please try to stop putting so much pressure on yourself (I need to listen to my own advice). ⁣
5. I am here for you. I mean that, truly. Please always feel free to send me messages (especially if it has to do with literacy and I will happily answer them the best I can). ⁣

Rant #2 : Why COMPARISON is the “thief of Joy”. ⁣
⁣
Okay, I know it’s normal to compare ourselves to others. We compare our bodies, our kids, our work, our houses. The list goes on. But here’s the thing, when we do it, we lose a piece of ourselves.⁣
⁣
#1 KIDS DEVELOP AT DIFFERENT RATES. ⁣
⁣
💫 Allow them the time to grow, to change and to not be first and not be the best. Celebrate their journey, even though that takes intention. 💫 ⁣
⁣
Honestly though, I get it. I teach reading to young kids as a living, and my kids (and I) are FAR from being perfect. If you’ve been here awhile, you know I try to keep it real, but at the end of the day, what you see on social media is really a small snippet of our lives. My kids are all so different, and they grow and learn differently. Each child. Each person is unique and we need to honour that. And our conclusions about our kids only serves to close doors.⁣
⁣
#2 : Mommas/women : we need to stop comparing ourselves to others. It’s everywhere. You open your phone to IG and see happy parents blissfully teaching their kids online while having gourmet meals and their kids eating all the fruits and veggies possible.⁣
⁣
This might be their reality at that moment in time (once in awhile it’s mine too), but if it’s not YOURS, please know you’re not alone. Here I am comparing again. ⁣🤦🏻‍♀️

Our bodies, our kids, our lives are all different. They’re not perfect. They’re ever changing. ⁣
⁣
We can’t take away comparison, but let’s recognize it and be aware. Infuse some self love, allow you and your life to be ever-changing, be aware of your own moments (they are happening around you and they are magical too), and you’ll find acceptance within the chaos.⁣

SNOW PAINT! ⁣
⁣
Okay this was definitely the highlight of our week! Being in 🇨🇦, we’ve been “lucky” with tons of snow this season! My kids gathered up ❄️ while I watered down paints. If you don’t have snow, cotton balls would do! ⁣
⁣
They then used these PERFECT eyedroppers to squeeze the watered paint and colour the snow. This activity was not only fun and exciting, it really helps with strengthening those hand and fingers! My son, who is 4, has really weak fine motor, so this was a win win! ⁣

Reading/phonics doesn’t have to be complicated. Most often, just a few minutes a day does the trick! ⁣
⁣
Here are 3 strategies that I LOVE doing with my kids (and they love it too!) ⁣
⁣
1. Matching letters or sounds. this is a great activity to help build their memory. Write down a few letters (not too many because that could be overwhelming) and turn the sticky notes down so you can’t see them. With your child (or their siblings) have them pick up the notes one by one and try to find their match. You can also do this with blends, digraphs and vowels. I’ll be sharing more about this in my email this week, so make sure that you’re on my list! ⁣
2. Sound Hunt: Say a sound and have your kids walk around the house to find objects that start or end with that sound! This one keeps them busy ;) ⁣
3. Sight word hunt: Reading + writing is so important. For sight words, it’s super helpful to put them in context. While reading, Pick a few words and when your child is not tired, use them in a sentence. ⁣
